Pompeii tours

We offer two tours to Pompeii and the surrounding area in Campania. You can choose either our semi-private day tour from Rome by air-conditioned mercedes minivan, which can handle up to 16 pax with an average group size of 8, or join a larger bus tour to Pompeii which we run in conjunction with Green Line Tours. The bus tour passes close to Monte Cassino and it’s 6th century abbey, scene of four devastating World War II battles between January and May 1944 on the infamous Gustav line.

Prices per person excluding archaeological guided tours in Pompeii and lunch, are 165 euros (discounts / offers: info@wheninrometours.com) and 120 euros respectively.

The semi-private Pompeii tour includes a 2 hour guided archaeological expedition through the remains of the ancient city, famously destroyed in AD 79 at the start of the brief reign of Titus Flavius Vespasianus. The Pompeiani were killed by surges of intense heat emanating from Vesuvius during 48 hours of severe eruptions, then buried beneath ash and pumice.

Lunch in Sorrento and plenty of free time to sample local tipple limoncello, while taking in unforgettable views of the Bay of Naples, Mount Vesuvius and Capri, completes a day to remember before returning to Rome. This tour begins in Rome between 07:00 – 07:30, when we pick up clients from their hotels or Piazza della Repubblica, and ends back in the city centre at c. 19:30.

The bus tour arrives in Pompeii via a brief tour of Naples and the pretty seaside towns of Ercolano, Torre del Greco and Torre Annunziata. Time is set aside for the archaeological tour of Pompeii, before returning to Rome via photo stops and a trip to a local artisan to see shell and coral cameo work, for which the area is renowned. City centre hotel pick up between 06:30 – 07:15 or from the Green Line Tours agency office at 07:30, which is located near Termini.
